Hiring Protocol

Hiring for all skilled and unskilled positions will be the responsibility of each contractor and/or subcontractor in partnership with the associated union(s) in Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. Each union will be coordinating with contractors on hiring. Emera Newfoundland & Labrador requires all contractors and sub-contractors to take into account the Project's Benefits Agreement and gender equity and diversity objectives as established with the Provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. Contractors and sub-contractors must also work within the applicable collective agreement.

The collective agreements give priority to qualified applicants in the following order:

  • Persons from either Newfoundland and Labrador or Nova Scotia
  • Canadian workers who are members of affiliate locals of the Union
  • Canadian workers
